Professional development, in our perspective, is not a destination but an ongoing journey at Avanti. It serves as an indispensable tool for nurturing, engaging, motivating, and retaining the talented individuals who make up the entire Avanti team. This continuous process acts as a catalyst for transformative change, fostering educational innovation, and propelling sustained school improvement.

This belief is grounded in the understanding that individuals are driven to enhance their knowledge and skills, stay abreast of changes and reforms, achieve personal ambitions and progress in their careers. As educators, we recognise a moral imperative to strive for improvement – not solely for our benefit but also for the inspiration we provide to those around us and, most importantly, for the students we serve.

Central to our mission is the provision of high-quality professional development, recognised not only as a facilitator of staff development but also as a crucial driver of recruitment, retention, and overall wellbeing (DfE, 2016).

Quoting the Education Endowment Foundation (EEF), we emphasise that "High-quality, structured continuing professional development is the most effective way we have of helping teachers improve outcomes for their pupils."

Avanti Middle Leadership Programme
Pilot 23-24

The Avanti Middle Leadership Programme goes beyond the conventional, aiming to bridge the gap between educational theory and practice, with a significant emphasis on the relational elements of leadership. This unique 'Avanti' training program not only delves into the 'what' of leadership but places equal importance on the 'how', ensuring a holistic approach to leadership development.

As part of our broader mission to inspire compassionate changemakers, the programme seeks to retain and attract talent within our trust. By integrating the two critical areas of leadership, it aligns seamlessly with our core mission at Avanti.

​

The evidence-based design of the programme draws upon essential sources of best practices in professional development and leadership, including the Education Endowment Foundation's Effective Professional Development Guidance Report, the Chartered College International Teacher CPD report, and research from the Australian Council for Educational Research.

​

As we look forward to this exciting venture, we anticipate that the Avanti Middle Leadership Programme will not only enhance the leadership capabilities of our team members but also contribute to the broader educational landscape by cultivating leaders who are not only knowledgeable but also deeply compassionate and capable of driving positive change.
